How to Use

1) Teach according to the REWARDS Intermediate manual

2) Give students extra practice opportunities to solidify their learning.

• Use Roll and Read partner games to speed up multisyllabic word reading
• Use Roll and Read partner games to build prosody with sentence reading
• Use independent vocabulary worksheets to build comprehension or assess
• Use whole-class vocabulary games (i.e., after school-wide testing, before holidays, or emergency substitute days) to deepen word knowledge.

TWO BONUS RESOURCES

These bonus resources can be used throughout your school building for years to come.

1. A 220-word multisyllabic baseline or post-intervention test.**
2. Editable Roll and Read fluency mat. Use this for science terms, phonics practice, math facts, or anything you can think of – throughout your entire school building – for all grades.

The Details

1. A 220-word multisyllabic word list conveniently broken into 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-word syllables. There is a teacher recording sheet and a student reading sheet.**

2. 25 Sentence Fluency Worksheets. Each worksheet has 7 sentences with multisyllabic words. Students roll a die and read the sentence that corresponds to the number on the die. (They read sentence # 7 if they roll the same number twice.) Each sentence contains two to four multisyllabic words aligned to the REWARDS Intermediate reading program. There are 500+ multisyllabic words aligned to the REWARDS Intermediate reading program in these worksheets.

3. 25 Fluency Roll-the-Dice game mats. Each multisyllabic game mat has 42 words aligned to the REWARDS Intermediate program. There are over 1,000 multisyllabic words on these game mats.

4. 75 Vocabulary Worksheets with Answer Keys – Students must match the definition to the correct multisyllabic word. There are 3 multisyllabic worksheets for each of the 25 REWARDS lessons. There are 14 multisyllabic words and definitions on each vocabulary worksheet. There are over 1,000 multisyllabic words on these worksheets.

5. 25 of the beloved “I Have, Who Has?” card game – Students can play this in small groups or as a whole class. The number of cards/multisyllabic words in each deck varies but ranges from approximately 24 to 38. These 25 “I Have, Who Has?” decks contain over 1,000 multisyllabic words that are appropriate for students in all of your grades 3, 4, & 5 classes.

6. 25 Multisyllabic Vocabulary Bingo games – A caller reads the definition for a multisyllabic word. Players find that word on their BINGO mat. This requires students to really think about those multisyllabic words! There are 10 unique Bingo cards for each of the 25 REWARDS lessons. There are over 1,000 different multisyllabic words on these Bingo cards.

We recommend that when you purchase the file, you download it to your desktop first. THEN, put it in a folder within your folder system.

**The multisyllabic word list is a bonus file and the only product in this bundle that is NOT aligned to REWARDS. This is GOOD because it will show your teachers how well students are able to generalize what they are learning in REWARDS to other multisyllabic settings. The word list is formatted as a word-based running record so the tool is easy to use to collect data on students’ progress towards multisyllabic word reading.
