These escape rooms are nothing like that! Your students will step into a world of possibilities, interact with a 360ยฐ image and choose which puzzle to start with.

Each interactive clue will ignite their multisyllabic word skills and introduce them to friendly characters to practice with!

Who is this escape room NOT for?

โŒย Students who havenโ€™t been introduced to multisyllabic words and have a weak grasp of vowel-team sounds, number of syllables, and prefix/suffix meanings

โŒย Schools that block Google Apps (Google Slides and Forms) when accessed from outside the school network

How do I use the escape rooms?

  1. Confirm with your IT person that student devices can access these two websites:
    – Google Apps (Google Slides and Google Forms)
–ย ThingLink.comย (this is where the escape rooms are hosted)
  2. Print out the student โ€œshow your workโ€ and reflection sheets
  3. Share the link with your students
  4. Feel proud and watch your students have fun!
  5. These NO PREP escape rooms are easy to use in the classroom or during asynchronous learning. Simply share the link with the students and let them go!
  6. It’s the perfect digital activity to build studentsโ€™ multisyllabic word skills. Your students will be asking for more!
  7. Donโ€™t let the fun fool you! The escape rooms are filled with rigorous, skills-based word building and word comprehension questions.

When can I use an escape room?

  • When students are tired but still need to learn
  • Fun Friday
  • The day before a holiday break
  • As a team building activity
  • Supplemental multisyllabic words activity
  • End-of-Unit performance assessment

What are some of the questions in the escape room games?

Altogether, the escape rooms in this bundle have a total of 232 multisyllabic words academic questions, with varying difficulty. Here are some examples:

  • How many syllables does the word ______ have?
  • Which of the following words has a prefix and not a suffix?
  • Which of the following words has both a prefix and a suffix?
  • Which of the following words has 4 vowels but only 2 vowel sounds?
  • What is the meaning of the word ________?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

  • How should students be organized when playing the Digital Escape Room?
We recommend that students play in groups. This fosters independent learning and ensures teachers are able to serve as a Guide on the Side, maximizing teachable moments and guiding students toward higher-level thinking. Groups who finish early can complete the Digital Escape Room Reflection Sheet.
  • Iโ€™m using this escape room with different classes on the same computer. Why are the answers from the 1st class showing for the 2nd class?
We highly recommend that you clear the computer’s cache after each group so that the answers are erased from the computer. This is because the computer will remember answers until you clear the cache. This means that if students from different classes use the same computers, the answers that the 1st class put in will be visible to the 2nd class.
  • Are all the answers self-validated?
YES! The game is built to reduce your work as much as possible, and all the answers are self-validated! This said, please note that this game is built on the “honesty policy”. This means that students have the freedom to try as many times as necessary to get to the correct answer. Please monitor students throughout the 360ยฐ digital escape room to ensure students are giving their best intellectual effort and not just clicking through the multisyllabic activities.

What do other teachers think?

โœ…ย โ€œMy students loved, loved, love these digital escape rooms for author’s purpose. For me (because we can always access Google Slides/Forms even it comes outside our school firewall), it was super easy to prep. I just gave students the link and loved what I watched in the classroom. This is what education should be like every day. Thank you!!โ€

โœ…ย โ€œThis baseline decoding assessment is proving to be such a boon for my summer school teaching. It helps me know just where my middle schoolers – who are reading below grade level – are at, and whallah! my intervention groups are formed based on the data from this baseline multisyllabic word assessment. This will be great for decoding progress monitoring too!โ€

โœ…ย โ€œMy students really enjoyed the escape rooms! This was a very easy to use resource that kept my students engaged.โ€

Thank you, and enjoy! โค๏ธ
